Green Materials & Healthy Homes

Our commitment is to make your home:

Healthier for you
, your children and grandchildren by avoiding the materials and systems used in new buildings today that release toxic substances into our living spaces, or that create breeding grounds for biological organisms harmful to our health.

More comfortable
by orienting it on the site to harness the sun for heating and lighting, by using natural ventilation for cooling, and by selecting highly efficient equipment.

Aesthetically and psychologically pleasing by designing the structure to fit the natural surroundings, choosing materials in harmony with the local culture, and giving it a timeless aura.

Specifically, we at Allen Associates:

Use only low or zero VOC (volatile organic compounds) paints, particle board and construction adhesives for improved indoor-air-quality.

Install on-demand water heaters
for both domestic hot water and space heating. These heaters consume about half the energy of a standard water heater but can supply an endless flow of hot water.

Install solar systems
to generate electricity and heat water for your home.

Use recycled
content materials such as engineered wood products, plastic-wood fiber decking, and fiber cement siding that are resistant to termites, fire, and water and have low, if any, maintenance requirements, and means fewer trees have to be cut down to build your house.

Substitute fly ash for cement
in our concrete mixes for a stronger, more water resistant product. Fly ash is a waste product from coal-fired power plants that normally goes into landfills.
